Registration is OPEN for the 8K Training Program!
The program will start on October 11, 2026 and run for 8 weeks. Target graduation race is The Wright Stuff 8K on December 5, 2026.
Program Details
Our training program will support participants as they increase capacity and strength, building from a base of 2 – 3 miles to a long run of 5 miles. This will include 4 coached runs each week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday), with tips on stretching, winter running safety, and growing stronger as a runner through different types of running sessions and cross training recommendations.

*Race registration fees not included in training program fees. Please register separately.
Program Structure
RRCA certified coaches will lead the following weekly group workouts.
Training Group Workouts:
- Sundays* at 7:00 am – Mission BBQ, Greenbelt (Google Maps Link)
- Tuesdays at 6:30 pm – PGCC Track, Largo (Google Maps Link)
- Thursdays at 6:30 pm – Herbert Wells Ice Rink, College Park (Google Maps Link)
- Saturdays* at 7:00 am – Greenbelt Park, Greenbelt (Google Maps Link)
*Weekend runs will shift to 8:00 am when club runs shift to the winter run schedule.
Race/Program Requirements
- Ability to complete a 5K at any pace
- Anyone ages 18 and up with the ability to walk and willingness to run.
- An active PGRC club membership is required. If you are not yet a member, you will be prompted to join PGRC during registration.
Required Supplies & Equipment
- Water (bring to every session)
- Proper running shoes
- Hat with a visor
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Hydration Vest
- Energy bars/gels/chews of your choosing
- Proper sports bras (women)
- Watch, stopwatch or an app for interval timing purposes
Medical Clearance
If you are under medical care, have a medical condition, or have not exercised recently, we recommend you secure clearance from your doctor before participating in this or any training program.
