July 27th – November 16th, 2024
The sixteen (16) week Half Marathon Training Program is geared toward walkers and runners who would like to challenge themselves and safely build mileage and endurance to complete a half marathon (13.1 miles). The program will offer the benefits of improved cardiovascular fitness, reduced adverse health factors, and safe training methods. The target graduation race is the Richmond Half Marathon on November 16, 2024 (or if you can’t travel to Richmond, the NCR Half Marathon in Glencoe, MD on November 30).
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
The half-marathon training program will include 4 weekly runs:
Sunday long run at 7:00 a.m., meet at Mission Barbeque in Greenbelt
Tuesday track workout at 6:30 p.m., at Ludwig Field
Thursday easy run at 6:30 p.m. meet at Herbert Wells Ice Arena in College Park
Saturday hill training at 7:00 a.m. meet at Sweetgum Picnic area in Greenbelt National Park
The program costs $70 and will include snacks, water, and a T-shirt. Upon completion of the program, we will have a celebratory brunch!
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- Participants must be at least 18 years old
- Ability to walk/run 3 miles
- Active PGRC Club membership status
- Participants are required to volunteer at one club event during the program.
MEMBERSHIP STATUS
All participants are required to be current members or to join the Prince Georges Running Club.
GRADUATION RACE
Registration for the graduation race is not included with the training registration.
