Program Details
The Spring 10k Training Program runs from February 14th through April 18th. Your coaches will train you to run 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) by building your endurance with a combination of walking and running, plus speed and hill workouts. This training program will offer participants the benefits of improved cardiovascular fitness, safe training techniques, injury prevention, nutrition tips, and most of all – fun!

- Target Graduation Race*: PGRC’s Springburst 10K on April 18, 2026
*Race registration fees not included in training program fees. Please register separately.
Program Structure
Gail Sockwell-Thompson and LaTayna Purnell will be your primary coaches.
For the first time ever, training participants may choose between morning or evening training sessions for the weekday workouts. No need to commit to one slot throughout – you can choose which options work for you each week!
Training Group Workouts:
- Sundays at 8:00 am – Mission BBQ, Greenbelt (Google Maps Link)
- Tuesdays at 7:00 am OR 6:30 pm – Herbert Wells Ice Rink, College Park (Google Maps Link)
- Thursdays at 7:00 am OR 6:30 pm – Herbert Wells Ice Rink, College Park (Google Maps Link)
- Saturdays at 8:00 am – Greenbelt Park, Greenbelt (Google Maps Link)
Race/Program Requirements
- Ability to complete a 5K (3 miles) at any pace
- Anyone ages 18 and up with the ability to walk and willingness to run. Minors may participate with a responsible adult.
- An active PGRC club membership is required. If you are not yet a member, you will be prompted to join PGRC during registration.
Required Supplies & Equipment
- Water (bring to every session)
- Proper running shoes
Recommended Supplies & Equipment
- Hat with a visor
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Proper sports bras (women)
- Watch, stopwatch or an app for interval timing purposes
Medical Clearance
If you are under medical care, have a medical condition, or have not exercised recently, we recommend you secure clearance from your doctor before participating in this or any training program.
